Lillian's Vision
-
A community that adheres to environmentally sustainable practices
-
Truly affordable housing for all: Market value prices and rents are not affordable, let's stop saying they are
-
We need affordable rentals: Langford should consider a Non-Profit Housing Acquisition Strategy (UBCM 2022) funded by Senior Governments and Developer Amenity Contributions. Non-profits use funds to purchase houses in older areas near Langford’s core that are now being replaced by unaffordable towers and condos. Prevents tenants from being forced from their homes. Province could exempt non-profit organizations from property transfer tax then use savings for upgrades and repairs to existing houses. They become affordable rental homes with backyards for families, seniors, singles, couples, people with diverse abilities. Langford could retain desirable, established single family neighbourhoods, walking distance of downtown.
-
Additional walking trails and more safe-cycling routes
-
Treed, spacious, and passive green spaces connecting neighbourhoods
-
Community buses, dedicated transit corridors
-
Family diverse co-op housing clusters with embedded wellness services, including family doctors
-
Planned community gardens and a year-round covered Farmers Market in a dedicated pedestrian zone
-
Town hall and bandshell for artists, community gatherings, local shows
-
Langford as "Hollywood of the North" with sound and film studios along with the professional, well paying jobs that come with them
-
Affordable recreation for all: outdoor pools, slides, wading pools for tots and seniors; access for diverse abilities; and a skate park in Langford
-
Sidewalks in every single neighbourhood
-
Commitment to Reconciliation with our First Nation communities
-
A "Climate Corps" of retired and youth volunteers working on river bank stabilization, wetland restoration, native plant harvesting, solar panels, water conservation systems
The Issues at Hand

EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
The Stakes are High
Youth say, "My generation has a sense of dread and helplessness. What kind of world are you leaving us?"
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Key Policy
Residents say, "Why are we replacing older neighbourhoods with condo towers? Market value prices and rents are not affordable housing, although at Council meetings they call it that."
A STRATEGIC PLAN FOR GROWTH
For a Better Future
Residents say, "We like living in Langford, but we think it has grown too big, too fast and the traffic, blasting and dust is a nightmare. And they are taking down too many trees."
What Langford Needs Right Now

-
Tree Protection Bylaw
-
Langford is the only municipality in the region that is not required to protect trees at rezoning, except for trees that are in sensitive eco systems
-
-
Code of Conduct
-
The Province has mandated that all municipalities will consider a Code of Conduct within their prescribed framework. We need a Code of Conduct to ensure respectful behaviour and dialogue for residents and Mayor and Council
-
-
Environmental Protection Committee
-
We are in a climate crisis and Langford needs to step up as leaders to protect our community and the future
-
-
Dust Bylaw
-
Langford has decided to develop to its urban containment boundaries and is experiencing development in every area of its neighbourhoods. We have no way of enforcing dust mitigation. We need a bylaw with teeth in it
-
